January is often a bit miserable for some people, but not at the Brewery on the 23rd! This uplifting gig is going to be soooo good, I can't wait!
Chube are a fresh fusion band hailing from Cardiff, led by the versatile Ben Creighton Griffiths on electric harp and keys. With Ashley John Long on basses and Jon Bradford-Jones on drums, these three create a blend of electro-acoustic magic that breaks the mold of traditional jazz fusion. Ben’s innovative use of effects transforms the harp into everything from a gritty rock guitar to an ambient synth, while the groove-driven bass lines and creative percussion build a sound that’s as unique as it is unforgettable.
The Chube Story
Chube was founded in 2015 when Ben teamed up with drummer Matt Williams to lay down the band’s first tracks. After releasing their debut EP in 2018 at Cardiff’s Tiny Rebel, they’ve gone from strength to strength. The lineup evolved post-pandemic, with Ashley John Long on bass and Jon Bradford-Jones on drums, while Matt Williams continues to work behind the scenes as producer and engineer.
Since their start, Chube has been lighting up festival stages like Harp on Wight, Aberjazz, and Wall2Wall Jazz Festival, where they even played a memorable set with trombone legend Dennis Rollins MBE. They’ve brought their unique sound to renowned venues like Pizza Express Jazz Club Soho, The Fleece in Bristol, and Matt & Phred’s Jazz Club in Manchester.
Their music has been featured on BBC Radio Wales Introducing, BBC Radio 3 Jazz Now, and BBC Cymru, gaining love from the airwaves. In 2019, they even made it as finalists for the Peter Whittingham Jazz Award. With their latest EP dropping in August 2023, Chube continues to push their sound in bold new directions, blending genres and smashing expectations.
